Zamfara Govt Moves to Tackle Security Response Delays With Roads, Drones

By Jelili Gbadamosi

The Zamfara State Government says it is taking steps to reduce delays in security interventions by improving road access and expanding the use of technology in areas affected by persistent attacks.

Governor Dauda Lawal disclosed this on Monday during a media chat, explaining that difficult terrain and poor road networks had continued to hamper the ability of security agencies to respond quickly to attacks, particularly along the Tsafe-Yankuzo axis.

Lawal said the state government was reconstructing the Tsafe-Yankuzo road to make it easier for security personnel to reach affected communities and respond to emergencies more rapidly.

According to him, improving the road network would significantly reduce the time required for security forces to reach locations under attack.

The governor also said drones were being deployed to monitor difficult-to-access areas and provide security agencies with timely information on emerging threats.

He noted that the technology had become particularly important during the rainy season, when some communities become difficult to reach by road.

While acknowledging that attacks still occur in parts of Zamfara, Lawal said the frequency of killings had declined compared with previous years.

He, however, identified Tsafe Local Government Area as one of the areas still facing serious security challenges, citing the activities of suspected bandit leader Ado Alero and his gang.

Lawal said his administration was “perfecting” its use of technology to strengthen intelligence gathering, monitor security threats and improve the speed of response to attacks.
