The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the federal government to speed up the process for the commencement of negotiations for a new national minimum wage that reflects current economic realities before the end of October.
In a communiqué issued after a joint meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) and Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Congress in Abuja.
The Congress is also demanding the immediate reduction of the pump price of petrol, saying the high cost of the product has triggered increases in transportation, food, and other essential commodities.
Other demands tax relief and wage awards for workers, as well as the implementation of agreements reached with the Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals, JOHESU, and the Joint Public Sector Negotiating Council, JPSNC.
NLC says addressing these demands will help reduce the economic difficulties facing Nigerian workers and the masses.
