The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to make the Preliminary Register of Voters for the 2027 General Election available online to improve public access and strengthen transparency in the electoral process.
The Commission said the register would be accessible through its online platform following concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders over the need for online access in addition to the physical display.
In a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee said it had conducted the physical display of the preliminary register at Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The exercise provided registered voters with the opportunity to inspect their particulars and submit claims and objections as prescribed by law.
According to the Commission, making the register available online is an additional measure to complement the physical display and facilitate wider public access.
INEC said it was still processing claims and objections arising from the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the Final Register of Voters scheduled for December 15, 2026.
The Commission expressed appreciation to Nigerians and stakeholders for their interest and constructive engagement, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and the implementation of the Electoral Act, 2026.
