The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected vehicle thief in Abuja and recovered a stolen Hyundai saloon car in a major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against crime.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu.

According to the statement, the incident was reported on July 5, 2026, by Mrs. Remilekun of Oba-Ile, Akure, who informed the police that she had employed one Adesola Ogunrotifa, 40, as her personal driver in July 2025.

The complainant alleged that the suspect drove her to Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service on Sunday, July 5, but absconded with her Hyundai saloon car after dropping her off at the church, reportedly heading towards Abuja.

Following the report, detectives attached to B-Division, Akure, launched an intensive investigation. Acting on credible intelligence and deploying strategic investigative techniques, the operatives tracked the suspect to Abuja, where he was arrested. The stolen vehicle was also recovered intact.

Police said the suspect has been charged to court for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Commending the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, praised the intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.

The police boss reaffirmed the Command’s determination to ensure that criminals have no safe haven within or outside Ondo State, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

He assured residents that all genuine complaints would continue to receive prompt and professional attention as the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property while bringing offenders to justice.
