Aiyedatiwa Appoints Prof. Tomola Obamuyi as New AAUA Vice-Chancellor

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, of Ondo State has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council in accordance with the provisions of the institution’s Act and other extant regulations.

The Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, recommended Professor Obamuyi after he emerged as the top candidate among 15 contestants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

Professor Obamuyi, a renowned scholar in Banking and Finance, will succeed Professor Olugbenga Ige as the institution’s Vice-Chancellor.

Over the course of his academic career, Obamuyi has held several strategic leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

His academic accomplishments include being named the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius. He has also served as a member of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Programme Accreditation Teams and as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.

Professor Obamuyi has presented scholarly papers at international conferences across Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States, earning recognition for his contributions to research and higher education.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor’s extensive academic and administrative experience would strengthen the university’s achievements and advance its mission in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.

The governor urged Professor Obamuyi to uphold the core values of AAUA while promoting peace, collaboration, and innovation among staff, students, and other stakeholders.

He also reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to providing the necessary support to ensure AAUA maintains its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
