JAMB to Hold 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions Monday

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board will on Monday, May 11, hold its 2026 Policy Meeting to determine guidelines for admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The meeting, which will be chaired by the Minister of Education, is expected to consider and adopt key policies for the 2026 admission exercise, including the determination of the minimum admissible scores for candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

JAMB disclosed that the 2026 Policy Meeting would also attract international attention, with officials from Sierra Leone participating to understudy Nigeria’s centralised admission system.

The Sierra Leonean delegation includes the country’s Deputy Minister of Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, alongside the Vice-Chancellor of Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Edwin Momoh, and the Vice-Chancellor of Njala University, Bashiru Koroma.

According to JAMB, the delegation was taken through the Board’s examination and admission processes at its headquarters in Bwari ahead of the policy meeting.

The Board said the officials expressed appreciation for Nigeria’s admission model, noting that the growing number of admission seekers in Sierra Leone had created challenges that the Nigerian system could help address.

JAMB added that the visiting delegation would witness firsthand how stakeholders are actively involved in the admission process during the policy meeting.

The Board also highlighted the strategic importance of its centralised admission system, noting that the structure had continued to streamline tertiary institution admissions across the country.
