In a major relief for educators, the Jigawa State Government has approved a ₦10,000 increase in the monthly allowance of non-permanent teachers under the J-Teach programme, raising it from ₦30,000 to ₦40,000.

The programme, introduced in 2021 to tackle the shortage of qualified teachers, currently engages graduates across public secondary schools in all 27 local government areas of the state.

State Commissioner of Information, Sagir Musa, who announced the decision after Wednesday’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, said the increment was to motivate teachers during these tough economic times.

According to him, the allowance hike will be sustained through provisions already made in the state budget. He appealed to beneficiaries to remain committed to their duties, stressing that teachers are vital to improving learning outcomes.

Musa further noted that the Namadi-led administration is committed to welfare initiatives, promising that similar support would be extended to other frontline workers in the near future.

Stakeholders say the move will bring financial relief and boost morale among non-permanent teachers who continue to play a crucial role in shaping the future of Jigawa’s education sector.
