LNSA Arrests 279 Suspects in Lagos Statewide Raid, GM Oyekan Says ‘No Safe Haven for Criminals’

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has arrested 279 suspected criminals in a statewide raid of blackspots, criminal hideouts, and shanties across Lagos metropolis.

The operation was carried out from late Sunday through Monday as part of the state government’s sustained war against crime.

Parading the suspects at the Agency’s headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, LNSA General Manager, Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan FISN, warned criminals to stay away from Lagos or face the full weight of the law.

According to Oyekan, the exercise was intelligence-driven, using the Agency’s network of community informants to identify hideouts across the state.

A total of 279 suspects were arrested, out of which 274 males and 5 females were from different parts of the country for offences, including theft, public nuisance, and other criminal activities. Many had no means of identification or verifiable residential addresses.

Oyekan said some of those arrested for public nuisance entered Lagos aboard lorries and vehicles used to transport livestock and goods. He stressed that while every Nigerian has the right to free movement, Lagos will not condone activities that threaten residents’ peace and security.

“The exercise aligns with the mandate of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, to ensure Lagos retains its position as the safest and most secure state in Nigeria despite its large population. Through intelligence and collaboration with sister security agencies, we will ensure law-abiding residents feel government presence while criminals find no hiding place,” he said.

The LNSA boss added that two suspects were caught attempting to steal a submersible pumping machine. Others were found with dangerous weapons like machetes and knives, plus suspected illicit drugs.

All 279 suspects have been transferred to the Lagos State Special Offences Mobile Court for investigation and possible prosecution. Oyekan said the operation will be sustained and expanded with other security agencies.
