The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed 828 cartons of Bioflex infusions supplied by Biomedical Company Limited, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The destruction of the drugs followed a consumer complaint from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika.
According to the agency, the complaint involved the presence of suspended particles in the infusions, prompting an investigation by the NAFDAC’s North-West Zonal Office (NWZ).
“Laboratory analysis revealed that the products failed sterility tests, posing potential health risks. With the approval of the Director-General of NAFDAC, the NWZ oversaw the forfeiture and subsequent destruction of the contaminated infusions,” a statement posted on its social media platforms reads.
“The products were removed from their secondary packaging, crushed, and buried, while the cartons were burnt to ensure complete disposal.
“NAFDAC remains committed to ensuring the safety and quality of medical products in Nigeria and urges the public to promptly report any suspicious products for swift regulatory action.”
