The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime following a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, generators, and mobile phones linked to various criminal activities across the state.

The operations, carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and officers attached to the Ibafo Division, resulted in the arrest of Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina.

According to the Police Command, the suspects were apprehended in separate operations conducted in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo following credible intelligence. The operations disrupted criminal networks allegedly involved in illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.

Items recovered during the operations include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

The Command disclosed that on May 30, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acted on credible intelligence and arrested Moruf Sodiq, who was allegedly linked to a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and its environs. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly led detectives to Mumuni Amodu, identified as a receiver of stolen property. A search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Abayomi John, a motorcyclist alleged to have provided logistical support to members of the syndicate by transporting them to targeted locations during their operations. Police said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

In another operation on June 12, 2026, operatives of the SWAT Unit arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina following intelligence reports linking him to the unlawful possession of firearms and the alleged intimidation of residents in Wasimi and surrounding communities. A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.

The suspect reportedly denied ownership of the weapons but later claimed he found the pistol and discharged a round to test its functionality. He also alleged that the pump-action rifle was handed over to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by investigators.

On June 13, 2026, officers attached to the Ibafo Division responded to a complaint of theft at a site located in Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo. Their swift investigation led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu, who was allegedly caught attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside an accomplice who escaped from the scene.

Further inquiries revealed that the suspects had previously stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo. Detectives subsequently arrested Aminu for allegedly receiving stolen property. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and uncover other members of the network.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and operational efficiency displayed by officers involved in the successful operations. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained action against criminal elements across the state.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen proactive security measures and maintain pressure on criminal networks to ensure the safety of lives and property. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.

The suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
