President Bola Tinubu has called on religious leaders to take a stronger role in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry in Nigeria and across Africa.
At the Kano Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani, President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, urged religious leaders to consistently speak against violent extremism and promote peace.
He also called for stronger peace education and moral guidance for young people, describing the Tijjaniyya community as an important partner in countering violent extremism across the Sahel and West Africa.
The President paid tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to regional security, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.
The Maulud attracted Islamic scholars and dignitaries from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and other countries.
