Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled a terrorist attack on Kukareta in Yobe State, killing at least 24 insurgents and recovering a large cache of weapons.

The military disclosed this in a statement on Thursday by Lt. Col. Sani Uba. the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai,
According to the statement, the attack began shortly after midnight on Wednesday and lasted until about 3:00 a.m.
It said troops under Sector 2 responded swiftly with coordinated offensive and defensive operations, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray.
During the gun battle, security forces neutralised 24 terrorists, while ongoing clearance operations have led to the recovery of several arms and ammunition.
Items recovered include 18 AK-47 rifles, three General Purpose Machine Guns, two PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, three Rocket Propelled Grenade tubes, two mortar tubes, four hand grenades, 18 AK-47 magazines, and large quantities of belted 7.62mm ammunition.
The military said two soldiers were wounded during the encounter and have since been stabilised.
It added that one reinforcing armoured tank was damaged, with all its tyres blown out during the operation.
The statement further noted that exploitation operations were continuing along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, where blood trails and medical consumables were reportedly found.

Operation Hadin Kai said the successful defence of Kukareta demonstrated the troops’ resilience, combat readiness and determination to deny terrorists freedom of action across the North-East.
