Police Eliminates Two Bandits, Foils Attack in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command says its operatives have eliminated two suspected bandits in a gun duel after they foiled an attack on Dankadu Village in Illela Local Government Area.

A statement by DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, Police Public Relations Officer says the bandits were advancing from Tsauana Forest towards the community when operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Volunteer Constabulary and Rescue Unit, alongside other tactical teams, engaged them in a gun duel.

The statement notes that the bandits fled into the forest with gunshot wounds, while a subsequent clearance operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 54 rounds of live ammunition.

In a related development, the Command says its operatives have arrested suspects linked to motorcycle theft syndicates operating in parts of Sokoto metropolis.

The suspects were arrested during operations in the Kwannawa, Tamaje, Mabera, and Mana areas, leading to the recovery of several stolen motorcycles and a fabricated pistol

The statement further adds that investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicates who are still at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Hassan Hayatu Shaffa, commends the operatives for their professionalism, bravery, and swift response.

He assures residents that the command remains committed to combating banditry and other forms of criminality and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious activities.
