YOBE STATE GOVERNOR URGES NIMC TO IMPROVE ITS DATA BASE

Mai Mala Buni, Yobe State Governor has called on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to monitor its database while issuing National Identification number to citizens and legal residents to affirm their identity.

The governor made the call when he received the management team of NIMC as part of their celebration to mark NIN day 2025 at the government House Damaturu.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy Idi Barde Gubana disclosed that the national identity number is a single, unique number that identifies persons for life, serving as the most authentic way to verify a person’s identity .

He emphasized the need for full registration of legal residents so as to have an accurate Nigerian population and enable Nigerians to have access to essential services.

He advised the management and staff to redouble their effort and ensure that Nigeria has an authentic and reliable registration database.

He pledged to support the commission with its logistics need to enable them to visit all the political wards to register people.

Speaking earlier, the state coordinator National Identity management commission Yobe office, Mr Zaman Yaksha Mshelpala informed the Governor that 16- September of every year has been set aside to celebrate and create awareness on the importance of national identitification registration

The celebration includes a road show campaign to educate the public, especially at the grassroots level.

He said recently that there were directives from the presidency that all Nigerians must be registered with NIMC, irrespective of their age .

He commended the full support given to the commission by the Yobe state government in the discharge of its duty.

“With the relative peace we have in Yobe, the commission is set to visit all the political wards in 17 local government areas,” the coordinator added.
