A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Victoria Ariyo, has reportedly died in Abeokuta following complications from an alleged abortion.
Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, was said to have died on Tuesday after experiencing complications linked to a terminated pregnancy.
Her remains have since been buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road.
The incident comes barely a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who served in the same local government area, died under unclear circumstances.
Reports indicate that Ariyo’s death has sparked allegations against a staff member of the National Youth Service Corps in Abeokuta South, who is accused of being romantically involved with the deceased. The relationship is alleged to have resulted in the pregnancy and its subsequent termination.
A police source confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody at the state command headquarters in Eleweran.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the case is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department but declined to comment on the alleged arrest or details of the claims.
Meanwhile, the NYSC in Ogun State has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
