NYSC Lodge Ogun…a death haven for Corps members


The National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC) Ogun “Corpers lodge”  fondly called used to be the toast of “corpers lodges” throughout the country due to its uniqueness which made many corps members  desire to work their service year aside conducive orientation camp at Sagamu. Since Ministries were moved to oke mosan, attention shifted away from oke-ilewo, the old ministry of works and other complexes. Since then, corps members in Ogun State lodge had been battling with lots of problem like leakages, epileptic power supply, no water, diseases to mention a few. Not quite long, the lodge became a beehive of armed robbers, rapist and other abode for criminals aside from the normal corps members posted to the state due to lack of maintaince by necessary authorities. What is in allawee? Many people felt corps members are enjoying due to the meagre 19,800 given to them to survive throughout the period of one year which would have includes Community development  society of the NYSC,(cds) dues, transportation and other upkeeps.  As an ex-corps member, I also faced lot of challenges in another man’s land due to lack of education about the life of an average corps members. Though, we have some “corpers” living in affluent due to the rich background and support they get from their parents, this does not apply to the poor and others strict homes whom their wards depend solely on the token paid by government and some parents refuse to add a dime.
