The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been taken into the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of public funds.

It was learnt that Bello went to the anti-graft agency’s office with his lawyers on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, who confirmed the development, stated that the former governor was arrested.

He said, “We have arrested him. Our chief security officer arrested him, and he was brought in by 12:54pm. He is having a session with our investigators. We are holding him in our custody.”

At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought for adjournment till November 27 in the fresh case it instituted against Bello, saying that the 30 days window was still running for the summons earlier issued.

Yahaya Bello is being charged by EFCC with 19 counts of money laundering and corrupt practices over N80.2 billion, which he allegedly diverted from the Kogi State Government’s treasury.
