The Concerned People of Igboland in the Southeast has kicked against RUGA initiative in the axis, As the menace of killer herdsmen continues to rattle some states in Nigeria, with the attendant lost of lives.
The body under the umbrella of American Veterans Of Igbo Descent, Ambassador for Self-Determination, among others in a communique issued and made available to Journalists in Abuja, said there is no land for RUGA in Igbo Land stressing that the idea is not for peace and Development.
The Group called on all Governors and politicians in the Southeast who may have collected ₦6 billion each as bribe to support this RUGA project, to forget the idea saying it will not see the light of the day.
The Group who vowed to resist the initiative with everything in its disposal maintained that it remains a private business disguised as Government policy noting that RUGA is a hidden plan to take over peoples ancestral lands and hand foreigners, using agriculture as an excuse.
It decried the the incessant lost of lives being experienced in Benue State saying Over 1,800 people have been killed by armed herdsmen from 2018 to 2023, according to human rights reports by killer herdsmen in the state.
The body urged all traditional rulers, town unions, youth groups, market women, churches, and every communities to stay alert and resist any attempt to subvert their rights.
