We didn’t sign any agreement with ASUU, only proposals — FG

By our Reporter

The federal government has clarified that it has no signed agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), insisting that discussions so far have only produced draft proposals.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja on Thursday.

He said reports suggesting that the government had entered into an agreement with the union were inaccurate.

“I read some reports in the media on Thursday indicating that we have a meeting with ASUU. That was not correct.

“Rather, we had an expanded meeting with relevant stakeholders to review the content of the draft agreement,” Alausa explained.

He disclosed that a committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education has been set up to review ASUU’s demands line by line and prepare a counter-proposal.

The outcome, he added, will then be presented to the Yayale Ahmed-led committee for onward transmission to the union.
