Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has said the University spent the sum of 18 million naira on data for students examination saying 100-200 level students wrote virtually while 300 level students and above were asked to resume on campus for examination physically in phases to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on our students.
Ogundipe disclosed this in an interview on TVC “your view” marking its 4th Anniversary in office monitored by our Reporter.
Unilag VC also used the opportunity to advocate for companies to invest in research which is one key area Universities can influence and solve the problems of the society.
He said during the interview that the school has been able to develop a ventilator. He said the question should be how can it be used?
On delay in transcript issuance,Prof Ogundipe said it has been a big problem in the past but now better. He said most of the issues encountered were people who wanted to change date of birth which is not possible.
On allegation of misappropriation of funds,Ogundipe said the University system is a unique system that works on committe system. He said as the VC,he cannot approve money without input from people involved in the committe that finds the intent suitable and necessary funds available to drive it.
He stressed further that between Jan- Oct,2021,the school has paid 1.092 billion on electricity which means our bill is like 100 million per month which is being paid from our IGR saying recently they got a relief idea from the government.
On Accomodation,he said the entire population is like 57000 while the University can only accommodate 8 000 people saying due to the peculiarity of the lands available which is water logged, investors needs to spend more money to achieve the same purpose unlike when the land doesnt have any peculiarity.
