Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday marked the 74th birthday of President Bola Tinubu with the distribution of 20,000 food packs and a personalised open letter to residents across the state.

The food items were distributed to various groups and individuals during a ceremony held at the De Blue Roof Event Centre, as well as across multiple locations in Lagos.

The event was attended by top government officials, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Tajudeen Afolabi.

Beneficiaries included community leaders, youth groups, women, and residents from across the 20 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of the state. The food packs were also distributed to worshippers at churches and mosques, including the Chapel of Christ the Light and the Central Mosque in Alausa.

In an open letter read during the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu described President Tinubu as an “extraordinary leader” and urged Lagosians to celebrate his life and achievements.

“My dear people, as you receive this gift box, know that its contents are more than a token of celebration. It is the united voice of Lagos State, affirming our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda,” the governor stated.

He noted that while Nigerians have endured the pains of economic reforms, the benefits are beginning to emerge, expressing optimism about the country’s future.

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted Tinubu’s legacy as former governor of Lagos State, crediting his leadership from 1999 to 2007 for laying the foundation for the state’s growth into a leading economic hub.

Speaking at the event, Omotoso described the occasion as significant for Lagos and the nation, noting that the initiative was designed to allow residents participate in celebrating the President while benefiting from a welfare programme.

Also speaking, Afolabi said the gesture reflected the administration’s commitment to supporting residents while honouring Tinubu’s contributions to national development.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the governor for the initiative, describing the distribution as timely amid prevailing economic challenges.

The event featured prayers for the President and the nation, with participants wishing Tinubu continued health, wisdom, and success in leading the country.
