The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has confirmed contamination in water samples obtained from Moremi Hall and advised members of the university community to take precautionary measures pending further investigations.

According to a statement was signed by the Head of the Communication Unit, Mrs. Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, she said the university management on Thursday, the institution disclosed that preliminary laboratory results confirmed contamination in water samples collected from the female hostel, while testing of samples from other halls of residence remains ongoing.
The development follows earlier reports of alleged water contamination in some halls of residence on the university campus.
According to the university, immediate precautionary and remedial measures have been implemented to contain the situation and prevent any potential spread of contamination.
As part of its advisory, UNILAG directed students, staff and other members of the university community to use available water only for washing and sanitation purposes. The institution further stated that water intended for drinking, cooking and other domestic uses should be boiled before consumption until further notice.
The management also urged anyone experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea or other related health concerns to report immediately to the University Medical Centre for assessment and appropriate medical attention.
The university noted that its location within a wetland environment and the ongoing rainy season necessitated heightened caution while efforts are being intensified to address the situation.
UNILAG appealed to members of the university community to remain calm and rely solely on official communication channels for verified information and updates. It also cautioned against the circulation of unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary anxiety or panic.
The management expressed appreciation to students, staff, parents and other stakeholders for their patience, cooperation and understanding, assuring that efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
