Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating in Abeokuta metropolis.

The suspects were identified as Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42. They were apprehended on Friday, 15 August 2026, following an intelligence-led operation.

According to a press release signed by DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, the arrest followed actionable intelligence that members of the syndicate, who disguise as commercial taxi operators to rob passengers of phones, cash and valuables, were sighted in a taxi heading toward Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.

Tactical operatives of the VCRU gave chase and intercepted the vehicle. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to being active members of the syndicate terrorizing commuters within the metropolis.

The Command said efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate, establish the full extent of their activities, and recover exhibits.

CP Bode Ojajuni, Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response and professionalism.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, warning that perpetrators will find no safe haven in Ogun State.

CP Ojajuni urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
