The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to due process, institutional discipline, and the rule of law following public statements by social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, VDM.
In a statement signed by
CSP Ani Iniedu, Force Public Relations Officer, the Force, said the criminal matter referenced by VDM has been investigated and is now before a court of competent jurisdiction on the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
The Police noted that since the matter is sub judice, adjudication rests with the judiciary, and the Force will not try the case in the media.
The statement added that the Assistant Inspector-General, Force CID, has invited AIG Moshood Jimoh of Zone 2, Lagos, for questioning over the allegations.
It also disclosed that on 30th July 2026, the Force CID in Abuja formally invited Mr. Otse to appear and substantiate the claims he made in public.
The Force said discipline in the Police is governed by the Constitution, Police Act 2020, and other regulations which apply to all ranks. While it respects the right to freedom of expression and accountability, it warned that freedom of expression does not cover defamation or unsubstantiated allegations.
The Police urged VDM and the public to honour the invitation and allow both the judicial and administrative processes to run their course.
