The Kano State Police Command has urged residents of communities around Hawan Kalibawa in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area to avoid the area during a five-day live-ammunition training exercise by the Nigeria Customs Service Training College, Goron Dutse.

The exercise is scheduled to hold from Sunday, August 9, to Thursday, August 13, 2026, between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm daily.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, specifically advised residents of Dambazau, Gangaren Dutse, Tumfafi, Kakurum, Dandalama and other surrounding communities to stay away from the designated shooting range throughout the exercise.
The command also urged residents not to panic if they hear gunshots during the period, explaining that the sounds would be from the controlled training exercise.
According to the police, adequate safety and security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property before, during and after the exercise.
The command appealed to residents in the affected communities to cooperate with security personnel and strictly adhere to the safety advisory for the duration of the training.
The police reiterated that the exercise is scheduled and controlled, urging residents to remain calm while avoiding the designated training area.
