Not fewer than 15 people are feared to have been burnt beyond recognition after a vehicle suddenly caught fire along the Enagi–Costain Duma Sharp Corner Road in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The tragedy reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026, with the victims said to have been trapped inside the vehicle as flames engulfed it.
An eyewitness, Ahmed Ndagana, who confirmed the incident, said about 15 people were believed to have died in the inferno.
According to him, the remains of the victims had been recovered and given a mass burial in line with Islamic rites.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established, while details of the vehicle and the identities of those involved remained unknown.
Ndagana urged motorists plying the route to exercise caution, particularly around the sharp bend and during the rainy season when road conditions and visibility may worsen.
Attempts to obtain official confirmation from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger State were unsuccessful.
Calls and a message sent to the Sector Commander, CC Aishat Saadu, seeking clarification on the incident had not been answered as of the time of filing this report.
The reported death toll therefore remains unconfirmed by the relevant authorities.
