The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of an unidentified man whose body was discovered without a head along the Maigatari-Gumel road.

The corpse was reportedly found on Saturday in Maigatari Local Government Area, with the discovery sparking concerns among residents over the circumstances surrounding the death.

A resident who spoke with DAILY POST said the victim’s body was dumped along the roadside and had no identification documents or other items that could immediately reveal his identity.

Police spokesman, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists.

According to him, the command received a report concerning an unidentified corpse along the road and promptly deployed officers to the location.

He said officers who arrived at the scene discovered that the deceased had been beheaded.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the body was taken to a nearby village where funeral prayers were conducted before burial.

The police spokesman, however, disclosed that the severed head was later recovered from a container in the vicinity.

Shiisu said detectives had commenced investigations to identify the deceased and unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.

The command has not confirmed claims by some residents linking the killing to ritual activities, as investigations are still ongoing.
