The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal “baby factory” at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two heavily pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects in connection with the operation.
The breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at a suspected syndicate hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicated that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been taking place at the facility over a period of time.
The two pregnant women rescued during the operation were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the location.
The Police subsequently conducted further intelligence-led operations within the Mowe axis and traced the activities to a hospital where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
While the mother was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established. The attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya , was consequently arrested to assist investigators in locating the missing infant.
Other suspects arrested during the operation were Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; and Stephen Ogbona, 39,
The Police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation into the full activities of the alleged syndicate, efforts to locate the missing newborn and the prosecution of suspects found culpable.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the Mowe Division for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the Police with timely and credible information on suspicious individuals or activities.
