In a statement issued on April 4, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the operations were driven by intelligence-led policing and proactive patrols.
According to the statement, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Evan Olokpa Igbunu, during a raid on his residence in Sapele on April 2. A search of the premises led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition. The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.
