Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, has commended Lion Raheem Babatunde Adeosun for his commitment to humanitarian service and national development.

Salako gave the commendation on Saturday at Nafil Arcade Event Centre, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, during the induction of Adeosun as the 17th President of the Abuja Metropolitan Lions Club for the 2026/2027 service year.

The new president, in his acceptance speech, unveiled a ₦50 million fundraising initiative to renovate and furnish LEA Primary School, Kurudu, Abuja, with essential educational facilities. He said the project was aimed at improving the learning environment for pupils at the school, which, according to him, had not been renovated for more than 10 years.

Adeosun explained that the proposed intervention would provide functional classrooms, tables and chairs, a well-equipped library, toilet facilities and a solar-powered borehole. He described the initiative as an investment in the future of children, stressing that access to quality primary education remained fundamental to national development.

To realise the project, Adeosun appealed to Lions members, corporate organisations, government agencies, development partners, philanthropists and members of the public to contribute towards the ₦50 million target. He noted that collective contributions, regardless of size, could translate into meaningful community development. The president also disclosed that he had devoted his time, talent and resources to Lions service for more than eight years.

Adeosun pledged that his administration would be guided by integrity, teamwork, purposeful service and measurable impact. He said his ambition was to ensure that the club’s achievements were reflected in the lives positively affected rather than merely in the meetings held or activities organised. He called on members and supporters to work together to make the school project a lasting legacy, concluding with the Lions’ service message: “In Lionism We Serve! Together We Serve Better!”
