The Nigeria Police Force has expressed grief over the death of Inspector Habila Mangai, who was killed in a road traffic accident while on duty in Imo State.

The incident occurred on April 18, 2026, along the Owerri–Okigwe Road, where the officer, attached to the Isiala Mbano Division, was conducting a lawful stop-and-search operation at Amaraku when he was knocked down by a Mack truck driven by one Chisom Ajah.
The injured officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
Police authorities confirmed that the driver and the truck have been taken into custody and transferred to the State Motor Traffic Department in Owerri for a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commiserated with the family, colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command over the loss, assuring that the officer’s sacrifice would not be in vain.
The Force reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation to establish the full facts of the case and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
It also urged motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and remain vigilant, especially around police checkpoints and duty posts.
