The National Sports Commission (NSC) has promised to compensate Nigerians for World Cup loss with medals from 2026 Commonwealth games starting in Glasgow this month.

Shehu Dikko, NSC chairman, made the commitment when Femi Gbajabila, Chief of staff to the President, on behalf of the President, hosted the team Nigeria for the Commonwealth Games in the State house, Abuja.

The Chief of staff to the President who pointed out that the government has played its role in commitment to the preparations of the athletes urged the team to surpass its best record in the last commonwealth games in Birmingham.

But most importantly, he nudged them to compete fairly while also protecting the values of honour and integrity of the country.

The NSC chairman sees this outing as an opportunity to make up for the country’s non-appearance at the ongoing world cup as he says the National Organizing Committee has taken necessary steps for adequate preparations.

72 athletes will represent Nigeria in various events of the games in Glasgow, holding from July 23rd to August 2nd.
