Police Raids Abia Forest Camps, Nab Four Suspected Robbers

By Ayomide Awe

Tension has eased along the Uturu-Isuikwuato axis after operatives of the Abia State Police Command stormed criminal hideouts and arrested four men accused of terrorising residents and students.

The Command said the raid followed a July 16 report at the Uturu Division about armed men robbing Abia State University, Uturu students and other locals.

Led by the Divisional Police Officer and backed by community members, officers tracked the suspects to their forest hideout and arrested them.

Those in custody include Jerry Chisom, Tochukwu Ugula, Chinonso Nwankwo and Kingsley Onyekeba.

The Police also recovered a locally made pistol, a knife, two phones and a laptop during the operation.

Abia State Police Spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that other criminal camps in the area were also destroyed as part of the mop-up.

She said the Command will sustain patrols to keep the area safe and urged residents to report suspicious movement via the police emergency lines.
