H.R.H. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Former Governor of the CBN has called for a proper audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), noting that this call was what cost him his job at the apex bank, Says the President Shouldn’t Be Petroleum Minister.

Sanusi made this known while delivering his remarks at The Bank Directors Summit held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
He said, “We need to shine a light on NNPC, He asked where are the dollars earned by NNPC.
The finance minister can not tell you today, that this is the total barrels of fuel that we produce and export, he can only rely on what NNPC reports, he added that those barrels are revenue and belong to the ministry of finance. we need a metring system, the finance ministry needs to know how much oil we are producing, how much oil we are selling and where the money is going. We need to fix the leakages in the system, and the dollar revenue issue, we will not fix the exchange rate problem.

For the ex-CBN chief, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) must remain until banks get together and pay up what they owe the system.

He also maintained that the banking sector must shore up its trust deficit in the eyes of the public and that there is no need to amend the CBN Act to keep the apex bank free of political influences.
