The office of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC at Oríta Aperin area of Ibadan South East local government was gutted by fire on Friday.
An eye witness who prefers anonymity said the fire must have been caused by an electric surge as there was no way a naked fire could get into the premises.
The witness revealed that the people in the office premises were not immediately aware of the fire until students in a nearby public school called their attention to it.
It was observed that some of the salvaged materials from the razed office were taken to the premises of the police station that shares boundary with it.
The Chairman Ibadan South East local government, Mr Emmanuel Alawode who came to the scene of the incident immediately he was informed of the development said investigation will be conducted to unravel the cause of the fire incident.
Men of various security agencies including the Nigerian Police, Operation Burst, Amotekun, and Man O’War were on hand to provide helping hands in putting out the fire and as well protecting salvaged materials from being carted away by unscrupulous elements.
