Fire Guts Electronics Warehouse In Lagos, Destroys Goods Worth Millions Of Naira

Fire has razed an LG office in Abule Osun, Trade Fair, Lagos on Sunday, destroying properties reportedly worth millions of naira.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), which confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Nosa Okunbor, its Head of Public Affairs Unit, said the fire outbreak occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Okunbor, LASEMA received distress calls of the fire outbreak at around 00:15 hours and promptly activated its Emergency Response Plan to respond to the incident.

The LASEMA spokesperson said, “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, received distress calls through the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 0015hrs, and activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans.

“Upon arrival of the Dolphin Response Team from LASEMA’s Igando Base at 0040hrs at the incident scene, a raging fire was discovered at the LG office located at the aforementioned address.”

Okunbor said the fire spread throughout the entire warehouse, “affecting equipment, small forklifts, household goods/gadgets, including TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of naira.”

The statement noted that the agency activated the LRU Fire Unit to support the operation with several additional fire appliance trucks for a quick intervention.

However, Okunbor said that the immediate cause of the fire could not be determined yet, noting that the cause of the incident was still under investigation.Okunbor said that so far, there were no fatalities nor injuries as a result of the incident, but added the fire escalated to the entire premises.The LASEMA spokesperson said that the joint response team was still actively engaged in combating the fire.

Okunbor said, “The entire major warehouse has been severely damaged by the fire. However, the effective collaborative efforts of the Agency’s LRT, LRU Fire Unit, the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, and other primary responders, the fire has been contained and prevented from spreading to adjacent structures, including: other warehouses, gas station, diesel tankers, expatriate quarters, other adjoining buildings.

“The joint response team is still actively engaged in combating the fire.”
