Governors under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resolved to reschedule the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to November 28, 2024.
Sparklight News understands that the meeting was originally scheduled for October 24, 2024.
The decision was reached following the consultative meeting of its various organs, which was held on Tuesday at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge, Tatari Ali House, Asokoro.
A communiqué issued and signed by the Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed after the meeting, said the meeting postponement is to ensure that the party goes into the forthcoming Ondo gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 16, 2024, with the unity and strength demanded, to “unseat t0he floundering All Progressive Congress, APC government in the state”.
The meeting also sought an end to disunity among members.
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027,” the communique read in part.
The meeting was attended by the PDP Governors Forum, its Board of Trustees, National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus and Forum of Former Governors of the party.
The meeting comes in the wake of an internal crisis currently rocking the party.
