The Senate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has approved 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday , as the official lecture hours for the university.

The decision was reached at the 245th Meeting of the Senate, held at the Zephaniah Madubuko Auditorium, following consideration of the report of the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Lecture Monitoring.
Under the new directive, lectures scheduled outside the approved hours will be regarded as unauthorised, while lecturers responsible for such classes will be held liable and bear full responsibility for any mishap arising from lectures conducted outside the approved period.
The Senate, however, approved an exception for lectures or practical sessions that necessarily extend beyond 4:00 p.m., stating that such sessions must obtain written approval from both the Head of Department and the Dean of the Faculty.
In an Internal Memorandum conveying the resolution to the university community, the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, further directed that where a lecturer needs to conduct a class outside the approved lecture hours, such lectures should be conducted virtually through platforms including Google Meet, Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
The university further directed that all virtual lectures conducted outside the approved hours must be recorded and uploaded to the University Learning Management System (LMS) for monitoring purposes.
The Registrar urged all Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors and Course Coordinators to ensure strict compliance with the Senate resolution.
The directive is aimed at strengthening lecture monitoring and ensuring adherence to the university’s approved academic schedule.
