Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals placed in isolation as health authorities commence investigations.

According to an update on the situation, contact identification and listing are ongoing, while laboratory tests are being conducted to determine whether the individuals have contracted the virus.
The update stressed that the classification of the cases as suspected does not mean they have been confirmed as Ebola infections, noting that confirmation would depend on laboratory results.
Members of the public have been advised to maintain proper hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and comply with guidance issued by public health authorities.
Further updates are expected as verified information becomes available.
