The High Court of Delta State, sitting in Asaba, has remanded four suspected members of an alleged gun-running syndicate in prison custody following their arraignment over the recovery of a Beretta pistol at a transport park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill, and Amadi Felix Chibuike, were arraigned after investigations linked them to the illegal procurement, movement, and distribution of firearms across state boundaries.
According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspects were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations conducted in Bayelsa and Imo states following investigations into the recovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol at the Effurun transport park on April 26, 2026.
Upon the conclusion of investigations, the police charged the defendants before the court on a five-count charge bordering on unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, conspiracy, and alleged membership of a proscribed organisation.
The charges include unlawful possession of a firearm under the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, unlawful possession of a fabricated Beretta pistol, unlawful possession of four rounds of live 9mm ammunition under the Firearms Act, conspiracy to belong to an unlawful society, and alleged membership of the proscribed Black Axe Confraternity.
Following their arraignment, the court ordered that the four defendants be remanded in correctional custody pending further proceedings in the case.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Yemi Oyeniyi, reiterated the command’s determination to combat the proliferation of illegal firearms, cult-related activities, and other violent crimes across the state.
He assured residents that the command would continue to identify, arrest, and prosecute criminal elements while strengthening security measures to protect lives and property.
The police commissioner also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the case who remain at large.
