The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into an altercation between personnel of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and commercial motorcyclists in the Life Camp area of Abuja.
The incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, amid enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcyclists operating on major roads and routes within the FCT.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations revealed that the confrontation began when a VIO official attached to a task force constituted by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had an altercation with a commercial motorcyclist.
The situation subsequently escalated into a confrontation, prompting the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, to order an immediate and comprehensive investigation.
According to the statement, the investigation is aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident, while further information would be made available as the process progresses.
The Command said normalcy had been restored in the area and urged residents to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities without fear or apprehension.
