The Lagos State Government has announced the emergency closure of the outbound section of Eko Bridge for safety investigations and repair works.

The closure, which affects the section between Apongbon and Ijora Olopa, will commence on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the government, the emergency measure became necessary to allow for critical safety assessments and repairs on the bridge infrastructure.
Motorists heading toward Lagos Island have been advised to use the Third Mainland Bridge as an alternative route during the period of the closure.
The government, however, stated that the inward Lagos Island carriageway of the bridge would remain open to vehicular movement.
To minimise traffic disruption, the state government said adequate traffic management and security personnel would be deployed along alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow and assist commuters.
The government appealed to residents and motorists for patience and cooperation during the repair period.
