LAWMA Arrests Three for Illegal Waste Dumping in Ketu-Alapere

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has arrested three individuals for illegal waste dumping during an overnight surveillance operation carried out in the Ketu-Alapere axis of Lagos.

According to the agency, the operation, conducted between May 8 and 9, 2026, was part of ongoing efforts to eliminate indiscriminate waste disposal and maintain environmental sanitation across the state.

The LAWMA Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team disclosed that the suspects were apprehended while unlawfully disposing of waste at unauthorized locations within the area.

Following their arrest, the suspects were traced to their residences as part of investigations aimed at determining the reasons behind their actions.

Preliminary findings revealed that the affected properties lacked proper waste storage facilities and had not been registered with designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators responsible for waste collection.

LAWMA stated that all identified properties had been documented and forwarded to the agency’s legal department for further action.

The authority also confirmed that blackspots identified during the operation were immediately cleared to prevent further environmental violations.

The agency reiterated its commitment to sustaining enforcement and surveillance activities aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier Lagos environment.
