The Nigeria Police Force has taken a major step toward sustainable policing and improved operational efficiency with the acquisition of three specialized buses powered by cleaner energy sources.

The vehicles, received on April 21, 2026, were donated by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund in collaboration with the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, marking the official commencement of the Force’s transition to green energy.

The handover ceremony drew a high-level delegation from both partner organisations. The NPF-TF team included Executive Secretary Mohammad Sheidu, alongside senior officials such as Tony Emafale, Sanusi Aliyu, Lawal Aliyu, and Oritsemi Banigo. Representing PI-CNG & EV was its Chief Executive Officer, Ismail Ahmed, supported by other key officials.

Speaking at the event, representatives of both organisations described the donation as the first phase of a broader initiative to modernize the Police operational fleet nationwide. They outlined plans to convert existing vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a move expected to significantly cut fuel costs and reduce environmental impact. The partnership, they added, also includes capacity-building programmes to ensure long-term sustainability.

Responding, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation for what he described as a forward-looking intervention. He noted that adopting CNG and electric vehicles aligns the Force with global best practices in logistics, sustainability, and resource management.

The IGP assured that the newly acquired buses would enhance personnel welfare and operational mobility. He further disclosed plans to establish internal conversion centres within the Force to maintain and retrofit vehicles, ensuring continuity in the transition to cleaner energy.

The ceremony featured the formal handover of keys and inspection of the vehicles, underscoring a shared commitment to equipping the Police with modern, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transport solutions.

The initiative reinforces the Nigeria Police Force’s drive toward improved operational readiness and efficient service delivery in an evolving energy and technology landscape.
