The Oyo State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement operation targeting unmarked vehicles, fake and obscured number plates, as well as unauthorized covering of vehicle registration plates as part of efforts to strengthen security and combat crime across the state.

The operation, which began on Thursday, forms part of the Command’s broader strategy to enhance public safety and eliminate criminal activities by ensuring strict compliance with lawful vehicle identification regulations.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the exercise is aimed at improving the state’s security architecture and making it more difficult for criminals to operate using improperly identified vehicles and motorcycles.
The Command warned that individuals found violating the directives would be arrested, while offending vehicles and motorcycles would be impounded in accordance with existing laws and operational procedures.
The police also announced plans to sustain intermittent stop-and-search operations, intelligence-driven patrols, and coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts and blackspots across the state. In addition, security personnel will be strategically deployed to key locations in both urban and rural communities to increase police visibility and enhance rapid response to security threats.
The Command stated that the measures are designed to deter criminal activities, improve public safety, and strengthen residents’ confidence in law enforcement operations.
Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with police personnel during the exercise, noting that the operations are being conducted solely in the interest of public safety and security.
While appreciating the continued support of residents, the Oyo State Police Command assured members of the public that all enforcement activities would be carried out professionally, lawfully, and with full respect for human rights.
