Taiwo Awoniyi, Nigeria international striker, could face disciplinary action from the the Football Association (FA) following his goal celebration during Nottingham Forest F.C.’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur F.C. on Sunday.

Awoniyi, who came off the bench, scored his side’s third goal to seal an important win in their fight against relegation. However, the forward’s celebration has drawn scrutiny.
After finding the net, he removed his shirt—an action that earned him an automatic yellow card—and revealed an undershirt bearing the inscription “God is the greatest.”
Under the rules set by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), players are prohibited from displaying political, religious, or personal messages on their equipment or clothing.
The regulations stipulate that such conduct may attract further sanctions beyond an on-field caution, with disciplinary measures potentially imposed by competition organisers, national associations, or FIFA.
As a result, Awoniyi may now face additional punishment despite his contribution to the victory.
