Residents of some areas in the Federal Capital Territory has been told to prepare for a temporary power cut this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, gets set to carry out maintenance work.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, the company said engineers will work on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the 132/33kV Kukwaba Transmission Substation.
The planned outage is scheduled for Sunday between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
According to TCN, the exercise will affect electricity supply in Wuye, EFCC Headquarters, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp. 7265
The company explained that the maintenance is necessary to ensure optimal performance of the equipment and improve service delivery.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, especially given the Yuletide and end-of-the-year festivities,” Mbah said.
“However, it is important that maintenance is carried out as scheduled for optimal performance of power equipment.”
TCN also noted that a similar maintenance was conducted on Saturday at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, which led to a 4-hour disruption in Gwagwalada and environs between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The company urged residents in the affected FCT areas to make necessary arrangements ahead of the shutdown.
