The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations that police officers extorted a resident during a stop-and-search operation, following the circulation of a video on social media.

The command said preliminary examination of a receipt posted alongside the video by a social media user identified as VJADEDIM indicated that the alleged incident dated back to May 19, 2025, rather than occurring under the current police administration.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the omission of the date in the circulating narrative raised concerns about the intention behind the publication.

However, the command said it remained committed to establishing the facts of the allegation, irrespective of when the incident occurred.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, revealed that the officer involved had reportedly lost his official identity card before the date of the alleged incident and had documented the loss. The claim is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The command distanced itself from extortion, unprofessional conduct and other forms of misconduct by police personnel, adding that appropriate action would be taken based on the findings.

It also invited all persons involved in the incident to report to the FCT Police Command Headquarters on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. to provide official statements and relevant information to aid the investigation.

The command urged residents to report alleged police misconduct promptly, providing accurate details of the date, time and location of incidents.
