Nigeria’s Flamingos have secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Brazil 3-1 in an impressive semi-final encounter.
The Nigerian side will face Japan in Saturday’s final in Rabat, Morocco, after producing a dominant performance to overcome the South Americans.
Awawu Bashiru emerged as the standout performer, scoring twice to inspire Nigeria to victory, while Queen Joseph also found the back of the net.
The Flamingos took control of the encounter after Brazil made an encouraging start, putting sustained pressure on their opponents and limiting their attacking opportunities.
Nigeria’s dominance was evident in the first half, as they registered nine shots on target, while Brazil failed to produce an attempt on goal.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 56th minute when Queen Joseph converted a pass from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi to put Nigeria ahead.
Bashiru extended the lead in the 71st minute with a spectacular effort before completing her brace 10 minutes from time.
The forward displayed impressive individual skill, dribbling past Brazil’s defence before slotting the ball into the net.
Brazil scored a consolation goal in the 89th minute through Kelly, whose header reduced the deficit to 3-1.
However, the late response could not prevent Nigeria from securing victory and advancing to the final.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to Japan as they seek to crown their impressive campaign with the U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
