Ogun Police Arrest Two Over Illegal Possession of Firearm

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearm following an intelligence-led operation in Ifo area of Ogun State.

The suspects, identified as Adeola Mathew, 47, and Rasheed Omoniyi, 48, were apprehended by operatives attached to the Ifo Division on Friday, May 9, 2026.

According to the police, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Kamorudeen Olabisi, acted on credible intelligence and stormed a suspected criminal hideout along Ibogun Road in the NITEL area of Ifo at about 6:30 a.m.

During the operation, Adeola Mathew was arrested at the scene, while a search conducted within the premises led to the recovery of a locally made pistol concealed at the hideout.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm was allegedly handed over to Adeola by Rasheed Omoniyi, who was later tracked and arrested by police operatives.

The recovered weapon has been secured as exhibit, while investigations continue to determine the source of the firearm and the suspects’ possible involvement in other criminal activities.

Police said the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.

The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through its emergency lines.
